
Billiards is one of the oldest entertainments of humankind alongside with chess and cards. Billiards is the hobby of prosperous people inclined to risk and excitement.

The hall of the Sports and Entertainment Centre accommodates billiard tables for Russian billiards and Pool. There are cosy chairs for spectators here as well.
A glance at the history of billiards - Up to now, the time when billiards appeared as a game has not been exactly established. Today we only known that billiards, in the same way as chess, appeared a long time ago and its homeland is one of the countries in Asia, presumably India or China. In the European countries - England, France - the first Asian billiards players appeared in the XV-XVI centuries, although games incorporating the principles of contemporary billiards were known to the Europeans much earlier.
There is no agreement of opinion concerning the origin of the name of billiards. John Wilk, English researcher, noted that initially billiards had the name «ball-yerds» compiled from two words of Saxon origin. Other researchers point to the fact that the word 'billiards' originates from the French word «bille» meaning «ball» or the word «billart» meaning wood stick.
Billiards was brought to Russia from Holland during the rule of Peter the Great. Types of billiards known to us are the following: five ball game or Russian, three ball or Berlin, pyramid (15 balls) and carambole or French played without billiard pockets.
