1843 saw both the foundation of the Velikoanadolskiy Forest and that of the Velikoanadolskaya Forestry School. Realizing that without support from the local population forestation could «wither on the vine», V.E. von Graff chose five boys among local peasants who, according to his idea, were supposed to become successors of his forestry occupation. They were living in the school, studying and helping the scholar with his experiments of growing forest in the steppe. Having adopted a method of training applied in Higher Forestry Schools as a model, von Graff built the system of teaching in a military manner: from military uniform to awarding military ranks to the graduates of the school. This form of training was used up to 1917. After the Civil War, the Technical School of Forestry was opened on the basis of the school. The first students of the School were representatives of Cheka (All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for Combating Counter-Revolution, Speculation, and Sabotage) and members of the Komsomol. This explains the name of the village where the Technical School (now a College) is located - Komsomolskiy.
The building of the Forestry School erected at the time of von Graff did not survive to this day: time did its part. Only the foundation remained from the old building. In 1900 a new building was erected on it, which now accommodates the Faculty of Mechanics of the Velikoanadolskiy Forestry College.
There are only seven Technical Schools of this type in the country, but Velikoanadolskiy School is the oldest educational institution in the field of forestry in Ukraine. Moreover, it is the only college dealing with forestation in steppe area and situated in a steppe zone.

The Technical School has the largest collection of cones in Ukraine gathered by students and teachers. The biggest cone in the collection is the cone from Coulter pine growing in North America. The impact force of the cone when falling from the tree reaches 400 kg. The smallest cone is the cone from biota. It is only 1.5 cm in diameter.
